What I'm Doing About the Texas Heat

August is the bitchiest of bitchy months here in Texas.  As far out as the forecast predicts on Weather.com, we're in for 100+ degree days.  Add in the humidity levels, and it feels exactly like hell. Exactly.

There's not a lot you can do outside on these sweltering days of summer, other than very early in the morning. There's plenty of daylight hours this time of year, but it's hard to want to take advantage of it with the temperatures soaring as they are.

So I will be going to more than my usual share of movies, reading a lot of books, and hopefully making some jewelry, and playing my guitar.  Unfortunately, this heat also makes me lazy, so although I've got high hopes of indoor hobbies, I'm sure I won't accomplish as much as I hope to.

Here's what's currently being read, or waiting to be read...
my current reading list
I just started The Attack, and I can already tell you, it's a great read.  It's been made into a movie that is currently out so as soon as I finish reading it, I'll be off to see the movie.  I love reading a book and then seeing how the movie version compares.

As you can see, there's several books on drawing, so that's another great thing to do inside, under an air conditioned roof!  After taking my painting class in June/July, I realized I really need to know at least a little bit about drawing.  I've started going to a local Meetup sketch group Wednesday nights.  I know drawing is one of those things that requires practice, so I figure the Meetup group will at least get me to sketch on a weekly basis. And hopefully I'll be inspired to do way more regularly than that!

Oh... speaking of movies, which I was a couple of paragraphs ago, today is Tuesday Matinee Day.  My friend Julie and I are going to see "Before Midnight" with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.  I didn't really like the first two of the series, but this one looked sort of interesting to me.  It's years into the marriage, I think post-kids and stuff.  I remember with the other movie, I felt a little guilty because I felt I was eavesdropping on a private (and sometimes mundane) conversation that really wasn't any of my business.  But I guess, today, I feel like doing a little eavesdropping on a bickering married couple.  I'll let you know what I think.  And if you've seen it, what did you think?

Hope you're able to stay cool and have a fun day!  :)
