Favorite Summer Vacation?

It's that time of year, so I have to pose the question.

Usually, I love a summer beach vacation. Maui is probably the best. Altho I don't love that long flight. But it's just so hot right now I WISH I could go somewhere cool and escape the heat for a little while.

As a kid, my folks would take us to Colorado and we would stay at the Broadmoor in the Cheyenne Mountains...my brother & would go ice skating, hiking, horse back riding...quite a great get-away!

For cool, try Lake Louise in Alberta (I think). Post Hotel. 5 Star restaurant in a giant log cabin by the Bow River. Yummy! Fireplaces in every room. Very quaint. Then, drive to Banff to check out the main street shops. Stay long enough to watch the Carabou come out in the afternoon.

Miss you at Cafe Lago. Hope to catch you somewhere soon. Maybe around the lake. I can be your next biker coach - nice pace.....

The summer vacation I'm often reminded of was to Astoria @ the WA/OR border. I remember listening to the "new" John Mayer CD (Room for Squares) throughout that road trip with my son. I was either our last, or nearly our last trip together. He's grown out of me, for the moment. This was a good trip together, though. We worked puzzles, ate well @ the bed and breakfast, rode bikes on the beach and through a civil war re-enactment, visited Mt. St Helens on the way back to WA...and so much more in between. I think this helps to explain why I still love my John Mayer CD.

The Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch. Have been going there for the past 15 summers. Most beautiful spot in the US so far. :-)
