What Do You Do When You Wake Up During the Night And Can't Fall Back Asleep?
Clearly, I am asking this question because I currently am having a problem with it! This post is being written at 5am, I've been up for a couple of hours. Here's what I'VE done:
1. Checked my blood sugar. Lots of times, I find that it's low and that's why I can't sleep. When that's the case, I just get some sugar in me and I'm back to bed sleeping soundly within a matter of minutes. Ok, but that's not the problem this time.
2. Did some writing.
3. Ate some oatmeal. Isn't something warm suppose to help you sleep?
4. Surfed around and read other people's blogs. Totally fun, but didn't lull me to sleep. At all.

I don't think I ever wake-up earlier than I'd like to. I do go to bed later than I want, lots of times. Even last night, I made myself stop reading/thinking/writing @ 2am. When I awoke to my alarm @ 9am, I was full of insight related to the previous nights exposure. So, it's all good...I think inability to sleep equates with inability to relax into a parasympathetic state. So, I'd suggest meditation or breathing exercises in the day--something to help the body reacquaint with the rest/repair state. Then, it will be able to make the shift more capably during the night. There's a bit more to it, but this is a good thing to do first. Sweet dreams!

I usually write in my dream journal about what is on my mind. Then I say a little prayer and go back to bed. I believe that what ever was on my mind that woke me up, must have needed some attention, so I give it the attention right now so I dont have to deal with it later...

drink water or milk..... at lease 8 ounces... it will dilute the acid in your stomach that is increasing tension in your body.
