I've been listening to the audio book Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted by Jennifer Keishin Armstong, which is all about the making of the brilliant Mary Tyler Moore show. Over the weekend, I was enthralled with the talk about the theme song, so today, I just wanted to post that video and remember that great song.
Of course, my favorite part of it is the very end, where Mary throws her hat up into the air. The director of the video told Mary to throw the hat up into the sky, pretending it was the absolute best day of her life. She did it in one take. That hat represents Mary's optimistic outlook, but also, her rebellion. She's gonna make it on her own!

This is one of my favorite shows of all time and the theme song is amazing. I recall there being a different theme song season 1. That's such a cool fact about MGM and MTM. I LOVE THAT! I have to check out this book.
oh, to clarify, I should say, same song, but different video and lyrics.
yep, i think they changed it too, melissa! i saw one on tv yesterday and i KNOW the video scenes were different.... altho still the hat throwing at the end in both! yay!
We just watched an episode of 'Hot in Cleveland, when some of the Golden Girls, including Betty White, had dinner with Mary Tyler Moore, Rhoda, Phylis, Georgine, and some other famous 1970's sitcom ladies showed in a bar that looked like Cheers. It was kinda funny with all old references, and these women talking like they all knew each other back then. Too funny.
