Zoe and Scout

Yesterday, our sweet dogs of 15 years, Zoe and Scout went out of this world the same way they came into it--- together.  I use to wonder about which one of them we would lose first.  I worried about it, because they had been together their entire lives and I just didn't know how one could handle losing the company of the other.  As it turns out, it was a worry I need not have wasted my time on.

The hardest part of all of this is now behind us.  But still, my heart aches in missing them.

I obviously don't know what happens after a dog dies.  But I know if there is a heaven, they're in it.  And if there's any chance of reincarnation, I hope they'll make their way back into our lives as soon as possible.

But until we meet again, we've got loads of great memories that I'll replay in my mind for the rest of my life.

Thank you, to our beloved sweet companions of the last 15 years, Zoe and Scout.  We miss you.

i knew that winter was coming and you couldn't take the cold
someday got here too quickly, i wish i'd bought it before it sold

(chorus)  i wish you didn't have to go
i wish the hands of time would slow
i wish that we could do it all again
and we would never, not ever
get to the end

i know the way this will go
i have played it out in my mind
and i've worked thru all of the endings
and my heart it breaks everytime

-chorus-

oh where did the time go?
and where will all this love go?
cuz every minute of every day love was in it in every way...

-chorus-

  1. Oh Kerri... My heart breaks for you. I am so sorry.
I do believe there is a heaven and that your sweet babies are waiting there for you - but in the meanwhile I bet your mom takes great care of them until you all meet again.
    Hugs...

  7. Oh Kerri... I am so, so sorry.

I've had dogs almost my entire life. In that time I've had two that were extremely special companions and so I know how much it hurts when their time comes.

I lean towards the idea of reincarnation and heaven and both concepts give me solace.

Please know my thoughts are with you both.
mucho big hugs from down south.

  8. Kerri, my heart is heavy with sorrow for you and Fermin as I type this. 7 years ago, I lost my beloved Bonnie unexpectedly, and I wasn't sure moment to moment how I was going to endure the pain. Out of nowhere, a friend sent me this poem, and it was the genesis of my healing. I don't expect it to take away the pain and loss you're feeling, but I do hope you'll eventually take some comfort from it. It's wholly inadequate, but the best I can do is express my absolute sympathy for your loss. And realize this: your precious girls are gone from the physical earth, but their spirits will live forever in your heart.

  13. I'm so, so sorry to hear about Zoe and Scout. Life will seem empty for a while, but I think that's part of the process. Wherever they are, they are with my sweet golden Tasha who left this world earlier this year. The love they give us is the payment in advance for the hole in our hearts and lives when they have to go. Shedding a tear with you today.

  15. Typing through tears...so sorry, but must say I'm glad they went together. Grief is harder on animals than we think. My minister thinks that because animals are so close to Spirit they reincarnate quickly. You'll know when Scout and Zoe have found their way back to you.

My heart aches for you...I always think that our pets are angels in disguise..I think they are always with us...wherever they go after. THey live in our hearts and minds...their energy is with us always...like everone we love. My prayers are with you. xxx

  19. I'm sorry Kerry. Be strong. When My cat of 16 years died I started a fund raising for a charity project for the local shelter in his honor. All the love that I shared with my cat had to end in a different way than just death. It helped me a lot. Maybe you could do something like this too.
And I do believe in reincarnation...so they will come back. Hugs.

  21. Kerri, I am so, so sorry for your loss. I sit here with tears in my eyes, after listening to your song and watching your video. So beautiful. Our four-legged loved ones are truly part of our families, and we ache to tenderly at their loss. Scout and Zoe are waiting for you at the Rainbow Bridge. Have you ever read that story? I included in my tribute to my sweet Kitty here: http://happyshackdesigns.blogspot.com/2008/03/thank-you-sweet-kitty.html

I have it framed in my kitchen and it always brings me comfort. God bless, sweet Kerri.

And how fun it would have been to meet up at DFW!

  22. I am just now reading this post and I hope you will know that I am holding you and your beloved friends in my heart during this period of transition. How amazing they went together ... what a comfort!

I lost my cat of 18 years and then 2 months later, my dog of 14 1/5 years. I was better prepared for the passing of my dog boy; before taking him in, I snipped a little fur from each of his feet and wrapped my prayer mala around his neck and had him cremated with it on. The following weekend, I was at a yogic fire ceremony and I offered his fur to the fire so that he might run into his next life (he had had bad arthritis in the final years). Two nights later, I had a dream where he was running towards me, tongue lolling, legs flying and I knew he was okay. I image all our friends are running free, chasing rabbits, rolling in who knows what and having a magical time!

    big hugs to you

  25. Kerri, I'm so sorry for your loss! How heartbreaking to lose both at the same time. But almost like an old married couple...maybe it was easier for them that way so they didn't have to miss each-other. Our dogs give us so much. Maybe you can take comfort in knowing what lucky puppies they were to have your love and care for all these years.
