It's Amazing

I've written over a dozen little songs for my "50 Songs in 90 Days" challenge.

I really do love the practice of sitting down to write on a daily basis, and I wonder why I don't always do it this way.  As far as this pace of actually writing a "song" in that amount of time, that is a bit nuts.  There's no time to edit things at this pace.  I just write them, record them, and slap them up on the 50/90 website.  But the idea of working on songs everyday, rather than just when I feel inspired...that feels great.

I just show up.  I plant myself and write about somethingAnything.  Sometimes I don't even know what I'm writing about.  Sometimes it's a reaction to a news story.  And sometimes, it's just something completely silly that I normally wouldn't write a song about.

I've got a confession.  I've been watching "The Bachelorette".  And not just watching it.  Planning my Monday nights around it.  The Bachelor, or the Bachelorette has now been on about 100 seasons.  It's all been said and done again and again.  In every season, there is heartbreak, double crossing, cheesy romantic lines that may or may not be scripted, and there is usually an ambulance at some point in the season.

This season's Bachelorette is in it's final two weeks.  I am very thick into the drama of it.  So really, how could I not write a song about it?

The song is called "It's Amazing" because that phrase is spoken an average of about 15 times an episode.  If you tune in, you'll also hear the phrases, "I've never felt this way before", and "I'm falling so fast!" and "I'm so excited" more than you ever thought you could tolerate.

Sorry for my video images- I swiped them off the Bachelorette website and they didn't look so good once I blew them up.  Anyway, enjoy  my silly little song...

All the lines start to sound the same
And the faces start to look alike
We've heard it before- there are no surprises left
and in the end a broken heart is all you get

(Chorus)
But it's amazing how fast we're falling...
It's amazing, I've never felt this way before!
It's amazing!  And I'm so excited!
It's amazing for sure!

I could see myself with you
We could make it all the way down to the end
On a heart shaped island in a fantasy suite
I keep forgetting it's not just you and me

(Chorus)

I might get down on bended knee
Or go home crying in that dark limousine

(Chorus)

Brilliant (SO much smarter than the show!!) and funny, and if I had no idea what inspired the song, I would just think it was a really beautiful song - sweet! :)

Oh and don't forget "(not) here for the right reasons"... :) Soo with you on the show; I don't even pick up the phone between 8 and 10 on Monday nights(!) I'm rooting for Chris all the way (in spite of all the mother talk - enough already! But he seems very genuine.) You?

ps. Incredibly impressed with your discipline - I can totally see how that would be a satisfying process. Stay with it girl!

Your songs are seriously awesome! Sometimes I'm like that when I'm writing - I make myself sit down and writing something. Anything. Even when I'm not feeling inspired or I have writer's block and I never put it up on my blog or something.

This is absolutely amazing, Kerri!!!!

And I'm so curious, do you think you might bring some of the challenge with you into your creativity, after the challenge is over? I mean working on songs regularly, without waiting for inspiration?

I'm very intrigued by this program the "Batchelorette" though! Sounds like my kind of cheese on toast!-maybe if i bombard the BBC with petitions we'll get it shown across the pond.I mean...heartbreak,double crossing and an ambulance...I'm sold!!

Too funny! Totally agree about the Bachelorette, but since my husband works that night I find myself watching it too. We've been gone so I have at least 3 episodes to catch up on! Oh, and I have been reading about the idea of the "daily practice", no matter what is your art form. I'm still trying to integrate this into my life because I believe in it. Way to go!!

your voice is mezmerizing, so so lovely...and when you "wrote" babushka on my blog you made me laugh right out loud, all over again...i was afraid of offending someone by calling it that, and lo and behold, emelie wrote that she wears one in the cold at home but not IN PUBLIC. xo wanda

This reminds me of something I read on Christine Kane's site about writing songs (well, it was about creativity and doing thing in general, but her explanation was about her song-writing) .. just scheduling time to write without waiting for inspiration to strike.

When I had a TV, I planned my (forgot what day it was, maybe Wednesday) around America's Next Top Model. It was my guilty pleasure. ;)

Kerri-wow!! 50 songs in 90 days!! that is serious business!! You have such a SOUL-FULL voice...powerful yet sweet. How are you doing after Flying Lessons? So many of us have began to make small (and HUGE) changes! Are you on the FB group? xxx

Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog. Maybe Men in Hats sing your songs when they do karaoke! ;)

Love the song! I used to work as a part-time receptionist at an insurance company full of the most stuffy, uptight, personality-free people you'd ever want to meet. I'd sit at my desk and make up stories about their lives and write songs about them. I've never had such in-your-face inspiration since then.

Sometimes you write the best things when you just sit down and start writing...I love the idea behind this, that you have to write a song every day. I bet in the end you will have some real gems.

Oh, that's fantastic! I've never really watched these shows, but four weeks ago (I think, the episode where that wrestler left the show), I got sucked into it at my mom's house and I've been watching it ever since, my mind bubbling with questions like, "Does she not see that Frank is not emotionally stable?" "What's up with that elk hoof with eyes?" "Isn't that Chris a sweetheart?"

"It's amazing" how someone can see herself with so many different people at once!

What really is amazing is your wonderful voice is and how beautiful a song about a reality tv show can be!
